Our UK missions are practical-based 3-day trips in London and Preston. The missions typically run from 9.00am Thursday until 5pm on Saturday including accommodation and meals for two nights. We work alongside local charities carrying out practical work such as refurbishing properties, DIY, decorating and garden-makeovers. Minimum age is 10,no skills required – just a willingness to help.
We have been working with partners involved in supporting people living on the edge of society. This has involved refurbishing houses for unaccompanied migrants as well as creating a new garden where residents can have a peaceful space to help them de-stress. We have also renovated accommodation and done various DIY for people who might otherwise become homeless. By giving practical help we can prevent people from a feeling of despair and give them hope and encouragement. Minimum age is 10. No skills required – just a willingness to help. But, if you love gardening, DIY or are a builder or plumber your skills will be welcomed.
Although the trips are short we ensure that you get some downtime at a nearby restaurant and the chance to get to know other team members.
In April 2017 Mission Direct launched its first UK project to make missions more accessible to a greater number of people. So far 25 volunteers have been helping Phoenix Community Care to renovate properties in Tottenham, North London, that they provide for unaccompanied minors from abroad. They created a whole new garden, including a new garden fence and plants, to provide a peaceful place. They renovated and decorated the driveway and front garden as well as giving the kitchen a spring clean.
You only have to give a £50 deposit to your trip contribution upfront.
The contributions listed are a reduced amount, based on the assumption that Gift Aid will be declared.
Orientation days and debrief days are included to help you get the most from your trip.
