Rebuilding education in Regent Village

Visit an amazingly resilient country with warm, friendly people. Join us as we embark on a new project with a new partner in Regent Village where we’ll be building and renovating classrooms to ensure children here can access education.

Regent Village was ‘put on the map’ in 2017 when a large mudslide devastated much of the area and caused widespread damaged to homes and SAIO School – which is where we’re working to help rebuild, renovate and refurbish facilities to enable children to learn in safety.

Please note that the trip dates may vary a day either way due to flight availability.

The Projects

With our work at Bureh Beach complete, 2018 saw Mission Direct embark on a new partnership in Regent Village - a mountainous region to the south of Freetown - where the significant mudslides occurred in 2017.

Class sizes here are so large that some take place on the porch or in tin shacks. Working with Tebbs Second Chances, we'll be building new classrooms to replace tin shacks and renovating existing facilities to alleviate the pressure of enormous class sizes and helping children here gain access to education in a safe, secure environment.

In the afternoons, you'll visit and assist some of our other long-term partners, including other schools in Freetown, a home for the elderly, a children's home which we helped to build 10 years ago and a home for disabled children.

Rest and Relaxation

You will have a time of rest and relaxation before returning to the UK. Sierra Leone has a stunning coastline and some of the world's best beaches; Eden Park is located on Mama Beach where you can swim or just have a lazy day taking in the scenery while enjoying your dinner on the white sandy beach.
