We help Carmen to restore houses for some of the vulnerable and marginalised in her village. We also support some of Carmen’s children’s programmes in the area and a day care centre for disabled children.
When the founder of MAD-Aid was young, she believed there were no children in Moldova with disabilities. Of course, they were there, but they were invisible. Because mobility aids are almost non-existent, children with mobility problems cannot access education unless their parents can afford to pay for private tuition in their home. These isolated children become isolated adults, trapped at home alone for long periods, and lacking the support they need.
And so, MAD was established to look for ways to help end this isolation, by improving mobility and creating education and health centres. We support the Phoenix Centre – a wonderful day care centre for children with special needs – run by MAD (Make a Difference) Aid, which opened in September 2015, and is the first centre for children with disabilities in north Moldova.
The staff provide treatment, social and educational inclusion for children with disabilities, and much-needed respite for their parents and carers. In 2017, we will assist the build of a much-needed toilet block for the children.
