Dominican Republic

Providing facilities for a brighter future

A very popular tourist destination, with white sandy beaches and turquoise waters. Yet, many families here live in isolated, impoverished rural villages, making it difficult to get access to full-time education, employment and adequate housing. We’ll be working with local projects to help alleviate poverty here and invest in brighter futures.

Please note that the trip dates may vary a day either way due to flight availability.

The Projects

Sugar Cane was once the largest export industry in the DR and employed a large proportion of the population to work and harvest the fields. Communities of people were brought over from neighbouring Haiti to provide expertise and many rural villages were established to house both Haitians and Dominicans working in this area. When the industry crashed over night, thousands of people were left isolated in these villages without access to alternative employment or education for their children. For the last few years, we've partnered with Go MAD (Make A Difference) to support ongoing projects which aim to help these communities lift themselves out of poverty. We've helped to build community centres, homes, classrooms and school facilities and in 2020/2021 this work will continue.

You'll be working within one of Go MAD's partnering villages to help local provide school facilities to ensure local children can access education - the key to breaking free from a future in poverty.

Rest and Relaxation

As well as enjoying the beautiful white beaches and warm sea by your hotel – a visit to Rudy’s has something for everyone. From a walk through the beautiful garden filled with tropical fruits, to taking a lazy river boat ride; you’ll then end your visit with an amazing lunch prepared with ingredients from Rudy’s ecology garden.
