On 2nd March, our first team of 2019 landed in Zimbabwe and began the task of helping to build a 2-block classroom for Joshua Dhube School in Mutare, including MD’s new CEO Wil Horwood and Trustee Tim Martindale.
The team had an incredible 2-weeks, many of whom had been to Zimbabwe previously and delighted in reuniting with many locals and project partners there. They made incredible progress on the classroom block and were able to witness the need for it as they watched children be turned away from school due to over-crowding.
During an afternoon community visit, some of the team were able to revisit a family they met last year – Margaret, widowed after her husband died of HIV, and her six children, who all live in a 1-room home. The team raised money for Margaret last year to buy her a bunk-bed to prevent 3 of her children from having to sleep on the floor and reached their goal within 1 day.
They didn’t disappoint this year, raising £260 in 40 minutes, which will pay for 2 of Margaret’s children to go to school for a year (4 are already sponsored). A testament to the ways God uses you on a 2-week mission to fulfil His will outside of the building site! Well done team!
